Practicing what we preach in the ways we work

Organising

Ethical Investment AssociationGÆIA is a founder member and actively involved in both the Ethical Investment Association

and the UK Social Investment Forum , the two leading organisations for businesses involved in the promotion of socially responsible investment.

We are also on the EIRIS list of ethical IFAs.

Activism

GÆIA promotes ethical investment by speaking at conferences both in the UK, overseas and on the internet, and for the past three years we have sponsored the Schumacher lecture series in Manchester which focuses on issues of sustainability.

We have raised funds from clients for the last seven years to fund the Human Rights and Nursing Awards given annually to nurses working around the world to relieve suffering and combat disease in the poorest and most conflictive areas of the world.    The Awards seek to raise the profile of the thousands of nurses, mostly women, who work hard and heroically without the recognition  given usually  to the other, predominantly male,  professions eg doctors and politicians.

In addition we subscribe to and campaign on behalf of a number of environmental and development organisations including Friends of The Earth, Greenpeace, The World Development Movement and Oxfam.

At Work

We also endeavour to carry through the principles of ethical business into our own practice in the following ways:

  • Using recycled/environment-friendly paper and office products
  • Recycling all paper, glass, plastic generated where possible
  • Travelling by public transport wherever possible
  • Using local social enterprise Emerge recycling
  • Act as an informal network for other alternative activities, eg. Third World debt campaigns, organic vegetable deliveries, like-minded solicitors and accountants etc.
  • By working in an equal, non hierarchical manner not often found in financial services or in comparable businesses
